Elaine M. Benedict of Haltom City, TX, died of cancer Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Haltom City. She was 52.
The daughter of Lyle and Hazel (Varner) Van Matre, she was born Dec. 13,
1946, at Hyannis, NE. She graduated from NHS in 1964.
She married Richard L. Smith in 1965. They were later divorced. She married Martin R. Benedict on Dec. 13, 1978.
Elaine was an employee of the Santa Fe Railroad for the last 29 years of her life.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, included her mother, Hazel Van Matre of Neodesha; a daughter, Laurel Hare of Neodesha; a brother, David Van Matre of Niceville, FL; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Frances Hare of Neodesha.
Preceding her in death was her father, Lyle Van Matre.
A memorial service was held in Topeka. Burial was in the Neodesha Cemetery.
