Johnnie L. Greer of Neodesha died Saturday, April 4, 1992, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. He was 45.
The son of Frank and Ruthie (Patchin) Greer, he was born June 21, 1946,
at Neodesha. He graduated from NHS in 1964.
After one semester at Independence Community College, he transferred to Wichita State before enlisting in the Army. After basic and AID training, he joined a military advisory group and transferred to Tehran, Iran, where he met his future wife. He was later divorced.
After completing his tour in Iran, he returned to the U.S., and the Army sent him to school. He received an associate degree in computer sciences from Orange Coast College at Costa Mesa, CA, a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas School of Engineering, and a degree in business administration from the University of California at Fullerton. While at Texas University, Johnnie was named outstanding engineering graduate of 1975, receiving a certificate and engraved watch from the chairman of the Advisory Council of the UT-Austin Engineering Foundation.
He went on to bio-medical service at Ft. McPherson, GA, later transferring to Ft. Detrick, MD, where after 12 years in the military, he was honorably discharged as a second lieutenant. On April 27, 1985, he married Carol R. Moore at Neodesha. The couple moved to Neodesha in July of 1985 from San Juan Capistrano, CA.
Johnnie then worked for MEC. In 1986, he suffered a massive coronary. He lived for six more years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, included his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greer of Neodesha; a son, Christopher Greer, Falls Church, VA; a daughter, Mrs. Patrick (Mondano) Sterling, Reston, VA; and a stepson, Dan Gallion, San Clemente, CA.
Funeral services were held at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Cheshier, Pastor Marge Thompson and Pastor Miles Henry officiating. Casket bearers were Nick Elkins, Bruce Ernt, Christopher Greer, Melvin Hare, Jerry Livingston, Bill Padley, Kent Shields, Ron Singhurst and Patrick Sterling.
Mrs. Peggy Cheshier accompanied Ms. Katie Potter who sang "You're My Vision," Rev. Dave Cheshier who sang "The Lord's Prayer," and Marge Thompson who sang "Jesus." Congregational songs were "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord," "Blessed Assurance" and "Majesty."
Burial was in the Neodesha Cemetery.

Goodman, Claremore, OK; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith, Sycamore; Ms. Dan Gallion, San Clemente, CA; and Clarence Edwards and Mrs. Bill Casey, Independence.
Johnnie's son Christopher died June 15, 2004. His mother Ruthie died in 2006.
