David Lee Gaut

June 1, 1946 - June 15, 1970

David Lee Gaut, 24, was pronounced dead upon arrival at an Akron, Ohio, hospital after a fall from a telephone pole on Wednesday, June 15, 1970.

After graduating from NHS, David worked for Stevie Togs garment factory in Neodesha and Jolly Kid Garment in Coffeyville. He was employed by CRH Refinery before joining M&M Construction Co. in Tyro, KS.

He was working in the Akron area as a lineman for M&M, salvaging copper from abandoned utility lines, when he descended from a telephone pole to rest while a train passed under the area where he was working. He returned to the top of the pole, then suddenly fell to the ground and could not be revived. The coroner's office determined the cause of death to be heart prostration.

David's funeral was at Ford Funeral Home Chapel in Coffeyville. The Rev. Glenn E. Muncy, minister of First Baptist Church, officiated. Casket bearers were Don Thomas of Oswego, Lynn Bailey of Wann, Okla., Ronald Shafer of Douglas, Jack Floyd of Neodesha, Jim Campbell of Tyro and Harry Thomas of Coffeyville. Burial was in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
