Everett L. Ballard

Everett L. Ballard, 57, a resident of Neodesha, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Wilson County Hospital.

He was born in Neodesha Oct. 17, 1946, to Robert "Dutch" and Zelma (Holliday) Ballard, and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1964.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1972, including one tour of duty in the Vietnam conflict. He married and was later divorced. After living away from Neodesha, he moved back in the early 1980s. He was a self-employed carpenter and handyman. He had a heart attack while painting a house and died at Wilson County Hospital.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5962 and of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Tara Freeman and Melisa Merando, both of Independence; one sister, Rubie Kirk of Neodesha; one brother, Ernest Ballard of Missouri; and one grandchild.

One daughter, Robyn Kay Wall, preceded him in death.

Graveside services were Sept. 24 at the Neodesha Cemetery. Pastor Jim York officiated. Everett was buried beside his parents.
