John E. Root, 57, of Dewey, Okla., passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 25, 2004, at the Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey, Okla.
John was born Feb. 23, 1946, in Sedan, Kan., to Harold and Mary (Parker) Root. John grew up in the Elgin, Kan., area. He was a 1964 graduate of Sedan High School.
He worked for years for the Boiler Maker Union of Coffeyville, Kan. He later was self-employed in the oil business. He was still actively working in Osage County in the oil business until the time of his illness.
He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by one brother, George Root, Wilson, Kan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary.
His father, Harold Root, passed away Jan. 27, 2004. A double funeral service was held Jan. 29, 2004, at the Graves Funeral Home Chapel in Caney, Kan., with Terry Bryan officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
